Frequently Asked Questions
Further information about the Executive Master’s in Software Engineering
Is there a discount on the application fee for UTD alumni? Yes, we will waive $150 of the application fee if you graduated from UTD.
Can you sponsor a student visa? No. This is a part-time program and as such is open only to US residents, including those here on an H1B visa, for example. Full-time degree programs sponsor many foreign students through F1 visas.
Is financial aid available? No, since this is a self-funded program. Generally, employers provide tuition assistance.
Can I defer enrollment once I’m accepted? Yes, although you may want to simply wait to apply until you’re ready. If you apply early in the year you are very likely to get a place in the program.
Is the GRE required? No, your grades and experience are sufficient.
I don’t have a degree in computer science or software engineering. Can I still get into the EMSE program? Possibly, but you will need to take courses in C/C++ and Java at community college, then take a summer workshop on data structures and algorithms at UTD. It will help if you are doing some programming for your job, and if you have a degree in a STEM field already.
